So much has been made of Manchester United’s reported interest in Antoine Griezmann that little attention has been paid to their other summer targets.
It’s far from inevitable that the Frenchman will move to Old Trafford, with Atletico Madrid hoping to hold firm.
And despite the swirling rumours, Jose Mourinho does have an alternative in mind if the Griezmann deal doesn’t come off.
According to the Sun, Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos is being targeted, as while he’s less of an attacking option than Griezmann, it’s unlikely that United could sign both.
It seems the Germany international is therefore only an alternative in the sense that he would be another big name, big money signing.
This wouldn’t be the first time United have tried to sign the World Cup winner, but he previously turned them down and headed to the Bernabeu instead.
Griezmann is thought to be reluctant to commit until he knows whether Mourinho’s men will be in the Champions League next season, and Kroos must have the same concerns.
United currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
