Nabil Bentaleb is close to joining Schalke permanently as long as he features against Cologne this weekend.
Sky Sports have it that as that will the Algerian’s 20th game for the Bundesliga outfit, it will trigger a clause in his loan agreement that will see him quit Tottenham for good.
Incredibly, chairman Daniel Levy has managed to blag £16million from that agreement – quite the fee for a player who last featured for Spurs in August 2015.
A contingent of fans will no doubt be sorry to see the 21-year-old go.
One of the few tangible contributions Tim Sherwood made was to hand Bentaleb his first run in the first team, and the youngster was impressive.
The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino seemed to herald the end of his growth at White Hart Lane, though, with the new manager frustrated by how easily he was often robbed in possession.
Bentaleb has scored four goals this season and assisted another four.

It is obvious that Spurs have not given enough effort in getting new signings. It would appear that no plan is made to buy at the very start of the January or Summer windows. A bad choice is made at the end. No new signings in this January was a bad decision. Unless we play our 1st team v Fulham we will loose, so out of another piece of silverwear. Unfortunately our Bench players do not compare with our rivals. At Liverpool, our players played like non league players.
