Trying to keep hold of Dimitri Payet could be a lost cause for West Ham.
The Frenchman was in huge demand in the summer and only added to his value with three goals and two assists at Euro 2016.
And while he’ll be 30 in a couple of months, he is still attracting plenty of interest.
The playmaker is clearly aware of that, and Slaven Bilic is going to find it difficult to convince him to remain at the troubled London Stadium while the Hammers sit 13th in the Premier League.
Bilic sounded furious when recounting the latest situation.
As reported in the Mirror, Payet is now refusing to play for the club and has asked to leave, but his manager doesn’t sound like he’s going to give in that easily.
“Let’s get serious. I have a situation with a player. It is Dimitri Payet. He wants to leave,” Bilic said.
“We have said we don’t want to sell our best players but Payet does not want to play for us.
“We are not going to sell him.
“This team, the staff, we gave him everything, we were always there for him. I feel let down. I feel angry.”
Payet is one of many West Ham players to have disappointed at times this season, having found the back of the net just twice.
It’s now unlikely that we’re going to see him against Crystal Palace this weekend.
