Arsenal are growing ever more worried about the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
The pair’s apparently interminable contract talks show little sign of progress, and by the summer they will have just a year left on their respective deals.
It’s quite incredible that the club have allowed things to get to this point. However, now that they have, other clubs are going to try and make the most of the opportunity.
According to both Don Balon and El Grafico de Chile, Sanchez is now Atletico Madrid’s chief target at the end of the season, when they may or may not be searching for a replacement for Antoine Griezmann.
It’s thought that even if Griezmann stays in the Spanish capital and resists the calls of several top European sides, Diego Simeone could bring in Sanchez alongside him.
The Chilean has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season after helping his country to Copa America glory in the summer.
The 28-year-old’s tally is at 15 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, but it sounds like his wage demands have been increasing accordingly.
Arsenal are now willing to pay him £200,000 a week, but there are going to be clubs willing to offer more. It remains to be seen whether Atletico are one of them.
