Arsenal have made a decision on Kieran Gibbs’ future

All the indications are that Arsenal will continue to scour the transfer market in January.

Their most interesting signing so far has undoubtedly been Cohen Bramall, the non-league youngster who arrived in a £40,000 deal from Hednesford Town.

The 20-year-old will link up with the under-23 squad, but Arsene Wenger still intends to strengthen his first-team options in defence.

Valencia’s Jose Gaya is still being linked with the Gunners, who cannot stay reliant on an ageing Nacho Monreal, but this does raise questions about the future of Kieran Gibbs.

The Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson reports that the England international is set to depart the Emirates in a bid to finally achieve regular football at the age of 27.

While it’s thought he’ll stay until the end of the season, his contract ends in 2018, so the club would presumably allow him to leave in the current window if anyone came in for him.

With the World Cup now just 18 months away, Gibbs needs to be establishing himself more if he is to make the Three Lions’ squad. It’s hard to see him eclipsing Danny Rose, but as it stands, he could still be a useful back-up option for Gareth Southgate.
