Manchester United and City battling for £60million Tottenham duo

Tottenham face a familiar battle to hold onto their star players this summer.

Chairman Daniel Levy has spent the first half of the season tying most of his key men down to new deals, with only Erik Lamela and Toby Alderweireld still in talks.

However, that doesn’t mean Spurs won’t still face big-money offers at the end of the season after another impressive campaign.

According to the Sun, Manchester United and Manchester City are keen to snap up not one, but two Tottenham defenders in Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.

It seems ludicrous that the Lilywhites would even entertain that notion, but the newspaper suggests the two Manchester giants will offer a combined fee of £60million.

The pair are hugely valuable to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and neither have release clauses, so City and United would have to bid at least £30million for each – and even then, it’s unlikely Tottenham would consider letting them go.

Levy has been criticised over the years for his penchant for profits, and it has to be said Spurs would do well financially out of any prospective deals.

Rose cost just £1million when he signed from Leeds, while Walker arrived in a £9million move from Sheffield United that included Kyle Naughton.

Walker has rarely been linked with a switch away from White Hart Lane, but for Rose, this is becoming par for the course. The England left-back was previously wanted by Chelsea, but they have now established their first-choice back three, so they are unlikely to join the bidding.

In Rose and Walker’s absence, Spurs lacked creativity in the first half of their 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, and that will come as just another reminder of why the club simply can’t afford to lose them.
