Lionel Messi saved Barcelona’s skins once again with a world-class late free-kick against Villarreal.

The Yellow Submarine looked to have won it before the Argentine lifted the ball into the top left-hand corner to salvage a 1-1 draw.

While it could prove to be a vital point for the Nou Camp outfit, the result will have done little to ease the pressure on the beleaguered Luis Enrique.

The Barca boss may have guided his side to the La Liga and Copa del Rey double last season, but the board are thought to be growing frustrated this term, with the Catalans now third behind Real Madrid and Sevilla.

As is the norm in the managerial merry-go-round of Spanish football, speculation is mounting that Barca are on the hunt for a replacement for Enrique – with the Daily Star having reported that they may already have one man in mind: Mauricio Pochettino.

According to the newspaper, Pochettino is among the names being considered to take over from Enrique, who is still undecided himself whether he wants to stay with the Spanish champions.

Pochettino has been hugely impressive during his spell at White Hart Lane, turning Spurs from a top six side to genuine title contenders.

And although these rumours are unlikely to go down well in north London, Pochettino only signed a new deal in 2016, so there are no indications as yet that the former Espanyol chief is ready for a second crack at managing in La Liga – especially not with Espanyol’s fierce rivals.
