The Manchester City side that won the title under Manuel Pellegrini seem a distant memory now.
Just for the sake of nostalgia, here’s how they used to line up under the Chilean:
Joe Hart, Martín Demichelis, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov, James Milner, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko
It’s not a completely unrecognisable XI, but of course, Milner, Nasri, Demichelis, Hart, and Dzeko have all moved on. Toure has barely featured this season either, though he’s finally been making appearances since his agent made up with Pep Guardiola.
The City boss admits the club are struggling because they lack the history and prestige of rivals United, but he is partly responsible for dismantling the side that last delivered glory.
The next exile is likely to be Kolarov, with the Sun confirming he has not been offered a new deal. His current contract expires in the summer.
The Serbian is therefore free to speak to foreign clubs, including Galatasaray who remain interested.
The 31-year-old’s poor form this season has been a major concern for Guardiola, so it’s hardly surprising that he is preparing to show him the door at the Etihad after an illustrious seven years.
