Michy Batshuayi’s first season at Chelsea can’t be going how he envisaged.
The summer signing was a huge hit at Marseille last season, but he has struggled to find his place at Stamford Bridge with Diego Costa usually being occupied as a lone striker.
Fortunately, the Belgian now has a chance to impress against Bournemouth since Costa will sit out that game through suspension.
And the situation has clearly alerted boss Antonio Conte, who has suddenly realised he can’t afford to lose him.
According to the Sun, Chelsea will rebuff any offers for the striker in January as they need him as back-up for Costa, even if they don’t intend to play him regularly.
It’s a strange use of a player who cost £33million, but that’s the Blues’ prerogative after he turned down several other clubs to move there.
Rumour has it that Batshuayi is already feeling unsettled, but he won’t be able to rectify his mistake until the end of the season at the very earliest.
