Mesut Ozil slated for shocking defending vs Everton

Ashley Williams ended Arsenal’s unbeaten run since the first day of the season as Everton triumphed 2-1 at Goodison Park.

The Gunners missed a host of chances to put the game to bed, and with just four minutes of normal time left, Williams added to Seamus Coleman’s header to give the Toffees the three points.

Mesut Ozil wasn’t the only player Arsene Wenger will be disappointed with, but he was the most important. Alexis Sanchez had to do it all on his own, scoring the opener and almost earning an injury-time penalty, but Ozil was nowhere to be seen.

In fact, the only thing the German international did which was at all noteworthy has got Arsenal fans absolutely fuming.

Watch his defending from the corner which led to Williams goal:

As you can see, he’s supposed to be marking the centre-back, but just ducks away and walks off before looking surprised when the ball ends up in the back of the net.

It’s that kind of mentality that has the supporters wondering whether the team lack the strength and willpower to win the Premier League. You haven’t seen too many Chelsea players do that sort of thing this season, that’s for sure.

Ozil’s next chance to make up for his error will come in the weekend’s game against Manchester City, but by then, Arsenal could be seriously behind in the title race. Chelsea can go six points ahead of their London rivals by beating Sunderland tonight.
