Thibaut Courtois looks set to put pen to paper on a new deal after deciding his future lies at Chelsea after all.
That’s according to the Telegraph, who report that Diego Costa is also expected to sign on the dotted line.
The goalkeeper was persistently linked with Atletico Madrid after dropping a number of hints that he wanted to leave Stamford Bridge.
You could hardly blame him given their form last season, but it’s fair to say he wasn’t exactly at his best either.
And Costa was also linked with a move to the Vicente Calderon, with his old club hoping for a reunion that never materialised last summer.
The players’ change of heart is just testament to the team spirit that Antonio Conte has instilled since taking over from interim boss Guus Hiddink.
The Italian has also built something more tangible than morale, with the Blues sitting top of the Premier League following their 1-0 win at Middlesbrough.
Costa, in particular, is having a fine season, putting to bed any doubts about his commitment to the club. As the focal point of Chelsea’s blistering attack, he’s top scorer in the league with 10 goals already in the campaign.
Both Courtois and Costa have three years left on their current deals, so talks can wait – but it’s a huge plus that they no longer have to worry about their key players jumping ship.
