Andre Villas-Boas wants reunion with Chelsea midfielder

New Shanghai SIPG boss Andre Villas-Boas is likely to come knocking at Stamford Bridge in the next transfer window as he eyes a reunion with one of his former stars.

The Mirror report that with Jon Obi Mikel out of contract in the summer, a switch to China beckons.

It seems AVB is also keen on tempting John Terry to the big-money league, though for the moment Mikel seems a more attainable goal.

The Nigerian has paid a heavy price for spending the early part of the season at the Olympics helping his country to a bronze medal.

By the time he returned, it was too late for him to force his way into Antonio Conte’s plans, and he is yet to play under the Italian.

The 29-year-old will be free to talk to other clubs in January, with Marseille also monitoring the situation.

If he needed any convincing of the reasons for joining Shanghai, unproven boss AVB, who took over from Sven Goran-Eriksson three weeks ago, is on a salary of £11million a year, per the Daily Mail.

The likes of Didier Drogba have also spent time reaping the rewards of the Chinese Super League, and as it’s clear he has no future in England – at least not with Chelsea – Mikel is already thinking about moving on.
