Yaya Toure has demanded his agent make peace with Pep Guardiola amidst the pair’s ongoing feud, reports the Mirror.
If the Ivorian’s career at Manchester City wasn’t already up in the air, then his representative Dimitri Seluk has hardly helped matters by sparking a war of words with the Sky Blues manager.
Of course, it all began with Toure’s omission from City’s Champions League squad. A 3-1 win over Barcelona in midweek suggests they’re coping just fine without him, particularly as central midfielder Ilkay Gundogan scored a brace.
However, Seluk was furious at his client’s treatment.
Toure hasn’t featured for the club since August, and Guardiola’s decision to ostracise him may have prompted a change of heart from Seluk, who now seems ready to make peace.
“I have spoken to Yaya in the last few days and he has asked me to make the peace with Pep,” he said.
“I agreed with him that I had to do what I could to make the situation better, because Yaya and Manchester City have been caught in the crossfire.
“Of course, I hope Pep takes the decision to bring Yaya back into his squad. But even if he doesn’t, I can assure him that I am not going to speak about him any more in the media.”
While it seems a little grand of Seluk to make such a public statement, he also revealed the hilarious reason why he had had to approach the Mirror.
“I have contacted the Mirror to send this message to Pep because he hasn’t returned my calls,” he added.
Toure is still picking up around £250,000 a week from City, so it’s in his agent’s interest to alleviate the situation.
Despite this apology, though, it’s hard to envisage there being any future for the midfielder at the club, who should at least start thinking about a loan spell in January.
