The reason Man City target Aubameyang was disciplined by Dortmund

Manchester City were already keeping a keen eye on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s situation at Borussia Dortmund.

The Gabon striker could well be on the move in the summer, though it’s thought Real Madrid is his preferred destination, after scoring 10 goals in 13 games this season.

Aubameyang has never seemed desperate to leave the Bundesliga, but all that may be about to change.

The 27-year-old was left out of Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night and was pictured watching the Champions League game from the stands and leaving ten minutes early.

It soon became clear he’d been disciplined for what was only described as “internal reasons”, but a clearer picture has now emerged of exactly why Thomas Tuchel felt the need to drop his star man.

According to the Mirror, the forward is in hot water after taking an unsanctioned trip to a party in Italy, before arriving late for a team meeting on Tuesday.

With Aubemeyang one of the more experienced players in the BVB squad, Tuchel has asked him to set an example, but he clearly hasn’t heeded that warning.

Fortunately, as they still picked up three points against Sporting, the Dortmund boss wasn’t made to pay for his decision to leave his best forward out, but he will be returning to action for the weekend’s game against Hamburg.
