It’s surely only a matter of time until Ryan Giggs is given his first crack at managing a Premier League club.
The former Manchester United assistant manager has turned down Championship offers in the past, waiting for the right offer to come along after leaving Old Trafford in the summer upon Jose Mourinho’s appointment.
According to the Independent, the Welshman could now be on the cusp of taking the Swansea job – that is, of course – if their American owners decide to sack Francesco Guidolin.
Guidolin is under huge pressure at the Liberty Stadium with his side in 15th place in the table.
Giggs would be an interesting replacement, as although he lacks managerial experience, barring a short stint at United as an interim boss after David Moyes was sacked, he knows the Premier League better than anyone.
The former winger reportedly believes that Swansea would be an ideal first post because of his nationality, which would make him immediately popular in spite of his inexperience.
However, Giggs may want to avoid getting his hopes up too much. The club’s new owners are extremely cautious about sacking Guidolin because they don’t want to set a precedent for their time in charge, so the Italian will be given a chance to prove himself before the Swans wield the axe.
