Liverpool made a huge statement of intent when they spent £25million on Georginio Wijnaldum this summer, but it already looks like it’s paying off.
Tottenham had pulled out of the race to sign the then-Newcastle winger because of his price tag, but Jurgen Klopp was willing to do whatever it took to get his man.
The Dutchman has given the Reds the added pace down the flanks that they needed, and Klopp’s side now boast a formidable attack.
With two assists already in the Premier League, the only thing missing is a goal, though he’s definitely capable of getting himself on the scoresheet, having scored 11 times for the Magpies last season.
Wijnaldum has told Liverpool’s official website that he is keen to open his tally at Anfield.
“You get used to scoring goals,” he said.
“During the years I have scored a lot of goals as a midfielder and when you get that feeling, you always want to score.
“You’re going to have a hunger to score goals and you’re going to be greedy to score goals. That’s what I am right now.”
Liverpool fans would certainly love him to start scoring this Friday night when they travel to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea. For once, it’s a game which is almost impossible to call, and the Blues will be on their guard knowing what Liverpool’s front line is capable of.
