Jurgen Klopp seems to have already gained a reputation as a bit of a loser when it comes to cup finals.

The German’s curse at Borussia Dortmund has continued into his Liverpool reign, with the Reds falling at the final hurdle in both the Capital One Cup and the Europa League.

In the case of the Capital One Cup, there wasn’t much Klopp could have done differently, as his side only lost to Manchester City on penalties.

As for the Europa League, however, Liverpool fans were infuriated with their side’s capitulation in the second half.

While Klopp has no doubt moved on from the defeat, he may well still be interested to hear what legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has to say on the subject.

Fergie believes he can explain the 3-1 defeat to Sevilla, and has suggested Klopp may have got it wrong by insisting upon the pressing game his sides are famed for.

“Sevilla didn’t enjoy Liverpool’s tackling and determination in the first half,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.

“But they started off after half-time with a more positive attitude and getting the goal right away changed the whole game.

“In the second half, Liverpool had no energy, they could not get to the ball. The space in midfield became bigger. I never had a team who could press a ball all season.”
