Vincent Kompany is still not yet ready to return to the Manchester City line-up.
The Sky Blues’ skipper hasn’t featured this season and while he was believed to be edging closer to match fitness, he was forced to sit out the 2-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday.
According to the Independent, manager Pep Guardiola is now set to delay his comeback even further due to toxins in the Belgian’s blood.
The club’s medical staff are carefully monitoring Kompany, who last played in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid last season, during which he suffered injuries to his groin and calf.
What will be particularly frustrating for Guardiola is that the centre-back has looked so impressive on the training ground.
The issue with his blood could actually explain why he is so injury-prone, but it also means he’s not worth risking for the Champions League opener against Borussia Monchengladbach.
In more positive news for City, Ilkay Gundogan could make his debut in midweek, while Sergio Aguero will also be available as his suspension only applies to domestic games.
