It comes as no surprise whatsoever to hear that Mario Balotelli’s final days at Liverpool were not happy ones.
The misfit has finally waved goodbye to the Premier League, almost certainly for good, with a free transfer to Nice after being told to find a new club by Jurgen Klopp.
That clearly didn’t go down well with the player, who the Daily Mail report spent his last moments as a Liverpool player locked away in a hotel room, refusing to mix with the first team.
To many Reds fans, his antics won’t be surprising, or even interesting. After all, the Italian striker has managed just one goal a season for the last two years.
As he heads to Nice, however, his behaviour is still mesmerising for one reason – it only serves as a reminder of how Balotelli got where he is in the first place.
For all his natural talent, it’s difficult to think of any player in world football with a poorer attitude. The same newspaper has recalled when he wouldn’t mark from corners, completely scuppering Brendan Rodgers’ training plans.
Nice is a fresh start, but unless there’s a dramatic turnaround his mentality, you get the feeling he’ll somehow find a way to waste another opportunity.
