Manchester United have been placed on red alert as they continue to monitor Antoine Griezmann’s situation at Atletico Madrid.
The Red Devils have identified him as next summer’s dream target, despite his apparent dedication to the La Liga side.
It’s understood the Frenchman is keen to stay for as long as Diego Simeone is manager, but that is where it could change.
The Mirror report that as Simeone could quit at the end of next season – as per reports in Spain – United are ready to renew their interest in the Euro 2016 Golden Boot winner.
It’s not as if Jose Mourinho is short of attacking options, particularly after Marcus Rashford’s latest exploits, but Griezmann could represent the perfect replacement for the declining Wayne Rooney, playing behind the strikers.
And the temptation of pairing him with international team-mate Paul Pogba would be all too great. It remains to be seen whether United can even tempt Griezmann to the Premier League, although he has hinted in the past that he would be interested in playing in England.
Regardless, it’s another huge statement of intent that they’re even talking about signing him.
