Antonio Conte’s Chelsea revolution shows no sign of letting up after a dream start to the Premier League season.
The Blues have won all three of the Italian’s first three games in charge after a summer that saw them strengthen with the signings of Michy Batshuayi, N’Golo Kante, and David Luiz.
Their squad could still do with a little fine-tuning, however, and according to the Daily Mail, Conte is set to return to one of his summer targets in the New Year.
Thiago Maia, a defensive midfielder currently playing for Brazilian side Santos, should cost around £15million.
The 19-year-old raised his profile even higher with an Olympic Gold medal, so it’s no wonder Chelsea are reluctant to give up on their pursuit.
While the wonder kid isn’t much of a goalscorer, having found the net just twice for Santos, he could sure up their defensive midfield.
The club’s continued interest will raise further questions about the future of Cesc Fabregas, who has fallen out of favour since Conte – and Kante’s – arrival.
For once, Chelsea seem to have started building a more long-term project, and that would make Maia the perfect fit.
