Zlatan Ibrahimovic has upped the ante ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby by revealing he could have signed for City in the past.

Ibra has admitted, via Sky Sports, that both Manchester City and Arsenal previously tried to bring him to the Premier League, but to no avail.

It was only this summer, at 34, that the Swede finally decided to try his hand at English football, and so far it’s been a resounding success.

The striker is currently the league’s joint top scorer, albeit only three games in. The man he shares that title with is Sergio Aguero, who has no chance of improving his tally in the derby, as he is suspended for the next three matches following a violent conduct charge.

As for Ibrahimovic, United was clearly the right move for him, and he has hailed manager Jose Mourinho for getting the best out of him despite his age.

“Mourinho is the mastermind, the master brain,” he said.

“He knows what he needs to do to win. I learned a lot from him at Inter.

“Who wouldn’t want to have Mourinho as manager?”
