Yaya Toure is a Champions League, La Liga, and Premier League winner.
For years, the Ivorian has been thought of as one of the greatest midfield powerhouses in world football, but it’s fair to say that’s now changed.
The 33-year-old’s time at Manchester City has rarely been easy, though he remains at the club after a summer in which he was widely expected to leave.
Perhaps his agents weren’t able to negotiate a deal for him because in the Toure camp, even if nowhere else, he is still regarded as a top, top player.
It comes as little surprise then, that one of his representatives has now hit out at City boss Pep Guardiola for dropping him from the club’s Champions League squad.
Incredibly, Toure only found out about the snub when it was made public.
And his agent, Dimitri Seluk, admitted, via the Mirror, that his client had been left humiliated.
“If he (Guardiola) wins the Champions League for City this season then I will travel to England and I will say on television that Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world.
“But if City don’t win the Champions League then I hope that Pep has got the balls to say that he was wrong to humiliate a great player like Yaya.”
Claudio Bravo, City’s new goalkeeper, is the only player other than Toure at the club to have won the Champions League, so Guardiola will be hoping he has enough experience in his ranks.
Regardless of Toure’s prior achievements, though, his lacklustre performances last season all but suggest he’s finished at the top – and Guardiola’s decision makes perfect sense.
