Tottenham new boy Moussa Sissoko has already caused quite a stir with his move to White Hart Lane.
The former Newcastle midfielder, who signed for the Lilywhites on Deadline Day, has proved a controversial figure, not least because of the manner in which he seemed to snub Everton.
The Toffees were rumoured to have agreed a deal for the Frenchman, but widespread reports suggested he then went AWOL and failed to turn up to his medical at Goodison Park.
However, Sissoko has told French publication L’Equipe that he never came close to signing for the Blues and had his heart set on a move to Spurs.
“I never went to Everton,” he said.
“It’s funny. I was watching TV, and I saw that a deal had been done with Everton and that I had signed for them, but I was in London, waiting to sign my contract (with Tottenham).”
Sissoko’s move was met with a mixed response from Spurs fans and it’s unsurprising given his hit-and-miss performances for Newcastle.
The midfielder starred at Euro 2016, but went missing for much of the Magpies’ campaign last season before insisting he was too good for the Championship following their relegation.
The 27-year-old has finally got his wish of playing for a Champions League club, something which Everton can’t boast just yet – but it remains to be seen whether he lives up to his own hype.
