Daniel Sturridge is no longer the hero he once was at Liverpool.
Since the departure of Luis Suarez two years ago, the England striker has been the Reds’ main man, and if it weren’t for his woeful injury record he’d be invaluable to the club.
Sadly, though, the amount of time he spends in the treatment room clearly hasn’t impressed Jurgen Klopp, who’s having to build his team on the assumption that Sturridge is rarely fit.
The forward was visibly unimpressed when Klopp overlooked him to bring on Divock Origi during the 1-1 draw with Tottenham last weekend, so he must be well aware that he’s quickly falling down the pecking order.
In spite of all that, it still came as a huge shock when Goal.com revealed that he was being offered to Arsenal on a season-long loan.
The transfer window is now closed, so it obviously didn’t materialise.
It’s thought that the player’s representatives were behind the talks with Arsenal, even though Liverpool’s official line is that he’s not leaving.
Speaking to the Guardian recently, Sturridge made it clear he wasn’t happy with where Klopp was playing him, insisting:
“It is difficult for me to play wide. I’m a centre-forward.”
Even if the boyhood Arsenal fan won’t now be heading to the Emirates, it’s clear all isn’t well at Anfield, and Klopp will do well to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
