Mourinho left fuming over Schweinsteiger decision

It’s fair to say Jose Mourinho should be pretty happy with how the transfer window’s gone for Manchester United.

The Special One has already transformed the Red Devils’ squad with the signings of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

However, despite United’s marquee signings, there was one name which kept cropping up throughout the summer for all the wrong reasons.

Bastian Schweinsteiger was told early on that he was not part of Mourinho’s plans, so it seemed inevitable he would be moving on.

After spending Deadline Day playing his last ever game for Germany, though, Schweinsteiger is remarkably still a United player – and believes he can work his way into Mourinho’s thinking.

The Mirror report that the Old Trafford boss is furious that the veteran midfielder hasn’t left, so it looks unlikely that he’ll be offering him another chance anytime soon.

According to the same source, the 32-year-old rejected the chance to join Sporting Lisbon on loan, a move which would have brought his United nightmare to an end.

The club were even willing to subsidise his wages at Sporting to ensure the deal definitely went ahead, but officials were left stunned when Schweinsteiger revealed he plans to stay until January.

Whether United fans will actually see him in a red jersey again is another matter, as Mourinho isn’t one to back down and Schweinsteiger has seriously undermined his authority.
