Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool are happy to continue spending in the transfer window, but insists any players they do bring in won’t be panic buys.
The Reds have been brought back down to earth with a thud following their 2-0 defeat to Burnley after starting the season with such promise at Arsenal.
What was most perplexing about the Burnley game was that Klopp’s men enjoyed almost 81% possession and dominated the Clarets in every way – except, of course, for goals.
When asked whether he would be strengthening after that performance, Klopp responded, as per the Mirror:
“If one game should change my mind then I would be a real idiot.”
The Anfield boss must be concerned, however, with his side’s apparent lack of progress and consistency, having made so many changes to his squad this summer.
Liverpool have already bought in Joel Matip, Loris Karius, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum to name but a few, so other than at left-back, there are very few obvious positions which need filling.
Klopp has his work cut out if he is to address the problem which has plagued the club for years: consistency. When Liverpool are good, they look fantastic, but they can’t afford too many more slip-ups if they are to compete at the top this season.
