Mauricio Pochettino gives latest update on Eriksen’s contract

Mauricio Pochettino has assured Tottenham fans that a deal for Christian Eriksen is just a matter of time.

The White Hart Lane faithful will have been alarmed to read last week that the Denmark international was demanding a weekly wage of £150,000 a week, rumours which the player himself has now quashed.

That still doesn’t mean he’s actually put pen to paper, though, with his manager insisting negotiations will eventually prove fruitful.

Pochettino said, as per Goal.com:

“We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks. He has two more years left on his contract and he’s happy here.

“It’s just a question of time to agree a new contract.”

Eriksen’s importance to the side cannot be underestimated, particularly as Spurs are lacking in top quality options on the wing, hence their pursuit of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.

The 24-year-old scored eight times for the Lilywhites last season and has also established himself as their free-kick specialist.

With Erik Lamela and Dele Alli often deployed just behind the striker, Eriksen plays a vital role in giving Spurs some much-needed width.

The Dane is expected to play his 100th Premier League game for Spurs at home to Crystal Palace this weekend.
