Manchester United may have found a way to tempt Southampton into selling Jose Fonte.
Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in the Portuguese centre-back to add some experience to his defence, but Arsenal are also interested.
In order to beat the Gunners to his signature, the Sun report that Mourinho will now offer Marcos Rojo as a replacement, plus £8million.
Arsenal do not have the luxury of being able to sell defenders, so it seems the Saints are more likely to allow Fonte to move to Old Trafford.
Rojo may not have had a glittering career at the club, but Mourinho has cleverly identified him as a makeweight because Southampton tried to sign him two years ago.
They have already endured a torrid summer, losing manager Ronald Koeman and stars Victor Wanyama, Graziano Pelle, Sadio Mane, and Gaston Ramirez.
However, if United come calling, they may not have much choice but to let Fonte leave. If and when he does go, Claude Puel has his work cut out to transform Rojo into a suitable replacement.
