Galatasaray want Fellaini – but should United sell him?

Manchester United have spent the summer making headlines by bringing in some huge names, but it’s fair to say that has made their squad a little congested.

Jose Mourinho is facing weekly selection headaches, none more so than in the centre of his midfield.

However, that could all change in an instant if he decides to offload Marouane Fellaini to Galatasaray,

Turkish publication Mynet are suggesting that the club have identified the midfielder as a transfer target after their move for Lucas Leiva fell through.

As for whether United will sell, this is an interesting one. The Red Devils are already getting rid of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick isn’t getting any younger.

While Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and even Wayne Rooney can all play in that position – albeit a little further forward – there is no-one quite like Fellaini at the club.

Some United fans would argue that’s a good thing after his mistake led to Leicester’s goal in the Community Shield, with many left to wonder how he has been at the club for three years, even surviving old boss David Moyes’ departure.

The Belgian does offer something unique with his bolshy, physical brand of football, but that can also make him a liability at times.

Perhaps his style was more suited to Louis van Gaal, but his continued presence seems to contradict everything Mourinho’s been working hard to achieve since his arrival.

The Special One has spent pre-season with the group trying to get them to play more attacking football and it seemed to work in their opening game, beating Bournemouth 3-1 with a trio of well-worked goals.
