Jose Mourinho’s Old Trafford cull has left many a Manchester United player fearing for their futures at the club.
The Portuguese boss has shown no mercy as he prepares to wield the axe on several players, even those who are popular with the fans such as Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Adnan Januzaj.
Yet, one player who seems entirely confident that he will make Mourinho’s trimmed down Premier League squad is Daley Blind.
Blind was Louis van Gaal’s signing, a factor which suggested that he could be let go by whoever succeeded the Dutchman.
That could still be the case, of course, but the defender, who can also play in midfield, definitely isn’t aware of it.
“I’m confident with my own qualities so I have to show it over and over again,” he told ESPN when discussing changes to the squad.
“I want to work very hard and get my spot in the team.
“I think in football you never really have assurances, but I believe if you are confident and work hard then you will get chances. What I’m saying is not only for me but everyone in the squad.”
He may well be onto something there, as he has in fact played in every game since Mourinho took over.
The 26-year-old is one of the more experienced defenders at the club, and that’s exactly what the Special One is looking for.
