Chelsea have listened to Everton’s demands for more money for Romelu Lukaku, but it looks like it’s still not going to be enough.
The Belgian striker, who started his career in England at Stamford Bridge, is being strongly linked with a return to London.
Antonio Conte is keen to bring in a top striker, but there is one major problem with the 23-year-old – Everton want £75million for him.
Chelsea have already had one bid of £57million turned down, this story coming from the Mirror. Now they are returning, as was widely expected, with an improved offer of £68million.
Considering that Lukaku clearly wants to move, you would’ve thought Everton would bite Conte’s hand off at that price.
Remarkably, however, they are holding out for the full £75million, warning Chelsea that the forward will start the season on Merseyside if their asking price isn’t met.
An extra £7million shouldn’t be that big a deal to Roman Abramovich, but he doesn’t want his club held to ransom either.
