Chelsea have launched a £38million bid for Kalidou Koulibaly after becoming worried that Everton could swoop in on the deal, according to the Mirror.
The Toffees are on the hunt for a new centre-back with John Stones expected to join Manchester City in a £50million deal, and that had led to suggestions that they could make a move for the Napoli player.
However, Koulibaly has long been linked with Chelsea and Antonio Conte has now taken steps to ensure the Senegalese is at Stamford Bridge next season.
The 25-year-old wants to move to the Premier League, having failed to agree a new deal with Napoli, though his current club have been unimpressed by the publicity surrounding Chelsea’s interest, which they believe has unsettled Koulibaly.
The Blues need a long-term replacement for John Terry. The skipper may be staying after all, but his latest contract is not expected to give him much game time, particularly as they are without European football of any kind for this coming campaign.
Koulibaly would be a good fit, but Chelsea need to act fast before new-money Everton start bidding.
