It’s impossible to tell whether Jose Mourinho is building for the future at Manchester United.
Although it’s early in his Old Trafford career, he appears undecided on whether to banish his reputation as a quick-fix merchant. Speculation continues of whether he will prefer Zlatan Ibrahimovic to starlet Marcus Rashford, with many United fans hoping the Special One will recognise the club’s tradition of developing young players.
Mourinho could create a proper legacy by considering signing some of the Premier League’s brightest young prospects, starting with Ramadan Sobhi.
Sobhi may have only just joined Stoke, but his former Al Alhy boss, former Tottenham manager Martin Jol, has already told Mourinho to keep an eye on his exploits, as per Goal.com.
“I sent a message to Jose Mourinho, who is in touch with me, asking him to keep an eye on Ramadan with Stoke City as he is a brilliant player and he can play at Manchester United after that,” he said.
Under Mark Hughes, Stoke play a very different game to the physical, brutish one they are renowned for. That means Sobhi should have a chance to impress Mourinho this coming season, as he attempts to fit in with the Potters’ new brand of football.
The 19-year-old was highly-rated by Jol in Al-Ahly’s title-winning season, but now that they have reluctantly allowed him to move to England, he has a chance to prove himself beyond that.
