Southampton are keen to bring in right-back Kieran Trippier from Tottenham, according to the Daily Star.

Saints boss Claude Puel wants to bolster his defence with the 25-year-old, who is also impressive going forward, having scored the winner in Spurs’ 1-0 win over Watford last season.

Unfortunately for the former Burnley man, that was one of just six times he started in the league over the course of the campaign, as Mauricio Pochettino consistently preferred Kyle Walker.

Trippier could have found himself moving to St Mary’s last summer, but turned down Southampton in favour of Spurs.

The Lilywhites paid just £3.5million for his services and could earn £5million should they decide to sell.

Not only would that represent good business for Spurs, on Southampton’s part, it would go some way to making amends for allowing Victor Wanyama to rejoin Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

The Saints have already brought in Nathan Redmond from Norwich this summer, which should aid them down the right wing, but Trippier would be another top quality addition.
