Swansea are set to bid £15million for out-of-favour Tottenham midfielder Nacer Chadli, according to the Mirror.
The Belgian midfielder will be a club record signing if the deal is completed, as Spurs look to trim down their squad.
Swans fans will be hoping they have unearthed another Glyfi Sigurdsson, with the Iceland international also having struggled to nail down a starting place at White Hart Lane before turning into a star in South Wales.
The 26-year-old was part of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ who Spurs bought with the proceeds of Gareth Bale’s transfer to Real Madrid. Initially, Chadli was one of the more successful, but injuries have restricted his development under Mauricio Pochettino.
Nevertheless, 25 goals in 119 appearances show he’s clearly got something.
Spurs, therefore, have something of a dilemma. Should they allow him to leave, they may be forced to watch on as he carves out a brilliant career elsewhere, just as has been the case with Sigurdsson. However, realistically there just isn’t room for Chadli in their squad.
The imminent signing of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou will push him further down the pecking order and he was criticised towards the end of last season for failing to be a game-changer when he came on from the bench.
For Swansea, Chadli is an incredibly smart buy. The midfielder’s talents have often gone unnoticed, so they shouldn’t become embroiled in a bidding war with too many other clubs.
Should the deal go ahead, though, they may have found themselves one of the more underrated gems in the Premier League.
