Newcastle could be about to add an ex-England international to their ranks, with Rafael Benitez seeking a reunion with his former Liverpool player Peter Crouch.
Crouch, now with Stoke City, could be on his way to Tyneside, according to the Mirror.
The Magpies have already signed five players this summer as Benitez hopes to revitalise his squad ahead of their Championship campaign.
Benitez’ men are favourites for the second-tier title and by bringing in plenty of top flight experience, the Spaniard can ensure he fulfils his promise of bringing the club back up at the first time of asking.
Newcastle have been left short up front following the departure of Papiss Cisse, who has signed for Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng.
Of course, Dwight Gayle has already arrived from Crystal Palace, but he is at the other end of his career, still hoping to prove himself.
Crouch, now 35, could bring some much-needed leadership to St James’ Park as Benitez’ project gets underway.
