Giroud could be sold as part of swap deal

Olivier Giroud would welcome a move to Napoli as part of a swap deal that could see Gonzalo Higuain join Arsenal.

That’s according to the Sun, who report that the Gunners could offer the Serie A club a package of Giroud and £42million.

The French striker, whose performances were heavily criticised by some fans last season, is excited by the prospect of proving himself in another league.

The only way Giroud would be allowed to leave would be if it involved another striker coming the other way, as at present, the 29-year-old is Arsene Wenger’s only real striker, with Danny Welbeck out until at least January.

Typically, fans wouldn’t be too sorry to see Giroud go, as he had a dry spell of 15 games last season, but he has just come into form and was an important cog in the French machine that made it all the way to the final of Euro 2016.

Well-respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is at the centre of the Higuain-Giroud claims, with the Argentine striker having been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time.

Higuain, who scored 36 goals in just 35 games last season, has also been linked with Liverpool and West Ham, but he is 6/1 to join Arsenal with SkyBet.
