United keen on West Ham starlet

Manchester United scouts have been spotted keeping an eye on West Ham prodigy Reece Oxford.

The Daily Mail report that Jose Mourinho is very interested in the 17-year-old, who could cost as much as £10million.

It is believed Oxford could be on the move as he is struggling to agree terms on a new deal to keep him in East London.

Admittedly, it seems unlikely that there would be any place for Oxford in Mourinho’s immediate plans, but as he is not yet a regular starter for the Hammers, he may accept a diminished role at Old Trafford and wait to be given his chance.

United could really do with a player as versatile as the young Englishman, who can play in central midfield or at the back.

So far, much of the attention surrounding him has been because of his age. Last year, he became the youngest ever player to feature in West Ham’s first team, but Mourinho must ensure it is his football that gets everyone talking.

West Ham are understandably reluctant to sell, but as Oxford only has two years left on his current contract, they could lose money if they retain him for another year – and that could play right into Mourinho’s hands.
