Manchester City are hoping for a breakthrough in their attempts to sign Leroy Sane this week, according to the Telegraph.
Pep Guardiola has been pushing to bring Sane to the Etihad all summer, but talks seem to have hit a standstill.
Now that Euro 2016 is over, the Germany international is more readily available, so City have asked for Schalke to make a decision in the coming days so the player’s future can be cleared up.
The 20-year-old is extremely highly-rated in the Bundesliga, but that means it may be difficult for the two clubs to agree a fee.
City are reluctant to stump up the £40million desired by Schalke, having already signed Ilkay Gundogan and Nolito this transfer window.
The Citizens’ interest in Sane has raised questions about the future of Raheem Sterling, but realistically, it’s unlikely Guardiola would want to sell the England man just yet.
After Sterling’s performance at the Euros, it’s unlikely many clubs would be in for him, as his confidence looks completely shot. If City are to bring Sane in, however, they may need to consider selling to balance out their squad, but for now, it’s more likely they will try and haggle Schalke’s price down.
