Real Madrid have stunned Alvaro Morata’s suitors by announcing the striker is not for sale.
Los Blancos brought the Spain international back to the club from Juventus this summer thanks to a buy-back clause inserted in his contract, but it was expected that was only so they could sell him on at a profit, with Arsenal and Chelsea both interested.
Now, those Premier League clubs will have to look elsewhere.
According to AS, Morata’s agent held talks yesterday with Bernabeu officials and presented to them an offer from Chelsea.
However, Real officials made it clear they are not willing to listen to any offers at all.
Strangely enough, it may actually be Manchester United who have played a part in Madrid’s change of heart. United have effectively priced the European champions out of a move for Paul Pogba, so now that Real don’t need the money to fund that transfer, they don’t need to sell Morata either.
It may have been the 23-year-old’s performances at Euro 2016 that also convinced Real not to sell, as his three goals were crucial in getting Spain to the last-16 of the tournament.
