Tottenham are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a move for Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze.
The German playmaker has been told to a find a new club by Die Roten’s new manager Carlo Ancelotti, and Bild are reporting that Spurs could launch a bid.
One major stumbling block could be his wages, however, as the World Cup winner would most likely be looking for at least £100,000 a week. That would make him the joint-best paid player in Tottenham’s history, as that is the deal currently being offered to Lilywhites star Harry Kane.
Chairman Daniel Levy typically likes to bring players in on a lower salary and then allow them to prove themselves, and as Gotze can be a bit hit-and-miss, it would be hard for the club to justify such extravagance.
As well as Liverpool and Arsenal, Gotze has also been linked with a move back to Borussia Dortmund, though it is understood that BVB are reluctant because they are unsure how their supporters would react.
It seems the Premier League is therefore a likely destination for the Germany international, but it remains to be seen if Spurs are willing to splash out.
