Mario Balotelli could finally be on his way out of the Premier League for good, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that Sampdoria are considering bringing him back to Serie A.

Liverpool fans will be breathing a sigh of relief as the Italian misfit’s spell on Merseyside draws to a close.

The one-time Azzurri international scored just once for the Reds after joining from AC Milan two years ago.

Last season, the 25-year-old was loaned back to the San Siro, but in a cruel twist of de ja vu, or perhaps simply due to a lack of application, again found the back of the net on only one occasion.

Balotelli is represented by super-agent Mino Raiola, who is having a ridiculously busy summer with his other clients including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba.

A big-money move to China was previously on the cards for Balotelli, but returning to Italy may be the best thing for him.

The striker has wasted the last two years, but should be entering the peak of his career, so it is not too late to prove himself.

And yet, in the Premier League, he will always be remembered as one of the great jesters, but not one of the greats.
