N’golo Kante is almost certainly on his way out of Leicester and has chosen Chelsea as his next destination, according to the Telegraph.
Kante’s contract has a £20million release clause, which the Blues should have no trouble meeting, and he is now set to turn down Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid to move to Stamford Bridge.
The paper reports that Antonio Conte, Chelsea’s new boss, is a huge factor in the Frenchman’s decision.
However, the club are being hesitant over making a formal bid and with good reason.
Meeting the release clause might not be the end of it, as Leicester simply have to accept the highest bid, as long as it is over £20million.
If Chelsea show their hand too early, it could force other clubs to follow suit, which could cause his price tag to rocket.
All that means a deal is likely to be done towards the end of the summer, particularly as the player is currently away on international duty with France at Euro 2016.
Fortunately for Leicester, Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri seems to have prepared for Kante’s departure with the signing of midfielder Nampalys Mendy.
That doesn’t guarantee Kante is on his way, but it’s a good indication if ever there was one.
