Andros Townsend has signed for Crystal Palace from Newcastle.
BBC Sport are reporting that the Eagles have finalised a deal worth £13million for the former Spurs man, who only moved to the north-east in January.
Despite making a huge impact at Newcastle, Townsend was ultimately unable to keep them in the Premier League and was widely expected to leave the club in search of top flight football; now that he has achieved that, he may also harbour hopes of reigniting his international career, having already featured 11 times and scored 3 times for England.
Even Rafael Benitez committing his future to the club was clearly not enough to tempt him to stay, though having a world-class manager has clearly helped them in the transfer window.
The BBC also have it that Dwight Gayle has gone the other way to Townsend, from Palace to Newcastle, while Bournemouth’s star attacking midfielder Matt Ritchie is also on his way to St James’ Park.
With those additions, Benitez’ side should come straight back up, but as for Townsend, he is likely once again to be embroiled in a relegation battle, at least if Palace continue the form they displayed in the second half of last season.
