Man City confirm Nolito

Manchester City have officially unveiled Nolito, with the Spain striker agreeing a four-year deal.

On the club’s official website, the 29-year-old said:

“I’ll do everything that the manager asks of me, try my absolute best and do everything I can to try to repeat the form I’ve shown throughout my career at various clubs.”

Nolito will be joining from La Liga side Celta Vigo, who he helped to a shock sixth-placed finish last season, a feat which earned him a spot in Spain’s Euro 2016 squad.

At Celta Vigo, he scored 39 goals in 103 appearances over the course of three seasons, while also scoring for Spain this summer before their tournament exit to Italy.

It will be interesting to see how Nolito fares at a top Champions League club, as although he was on Barcelona’s books, that was chiefly with their ‘B’ team, so this will be his first shot at a really top club, asides from perhaps Benfica in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

City signing a striker in the summer transfer window now seems par for the course and there is no indication that Pep Guardiola plans to slow down now he has secured this latest addition to his squad.

Nolito’s down-to-earth attitude seems incongruous with the big lights and money of Manchester City, but judging by his performances at the Euros, he will no doubt adapt to the Premier League in no time.
