Manchester United have finally agreed a fee with Borussia Dortmund for midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Only last week, the Bundesliga outfit insisted the Armenian would not be sold despite having just a year left on his contract.
Now the Daily Mail report that BVB have accepted a bid of around £26million after the player pleaded with club officials to allow him his dream move to Old Trafford.
For Jose Mourinho, this represents one of the biggest moments of the transfer window, and he will be hoping that Mkhitaryan can finally nail down a position in the central midfield in a way that Marouane Fellaini, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Morgan Schneiderlin weren’t able to last season.
As for Dortmund, though, Mkhitaryan’s move represents yet another empty promise to keep hold of one of their key players.
Mats Hummels has already left for Bayern Munich earlier in the window, so BVB’s spine will be severely depleted next season.
Instead of uttering any more empty words, Dortmund need to make sure they start being proactive, or there is no chance they will be able to close the gap on Munich.
