Manchester United have been told they can sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid this summer, according to the Mirror.
The Colombia forward is expected to leave at some point during the course of the transfer window after struggling to impress this season.
The 24-year-old fell out of favour under Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and Old Trafford is one of his most likely destinations.
However, there could be a major sticking point in the deal, as Real are not willing to make much of a loss on the striker.
He signed on at the Bernabeu two years ago after starring for Colombia in the 2014 World Cup.
His performances in that tournament meant Real had to fish out £56million to sign him from Monaco, but it will be difficult for them to recoup that figure now.
They are likely to ask around £50million from United, but it remains to be seen whether chief executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will allow that kind of expenditure on a player who hasn’t exactly been in the form of his life.
To United’s advantage is that Rodriguez has the same agent as manager Jose Mourinho, so that may help them negotiate the price down.
If Los Blancos refuse to budge, though, it’s likely the out-of-sorts star will have to find a club like rumoured suitors Paris Saint-Germain, who have a far bigger budget.
