Manchester United have opened talks to sign Juventus superstar Paul Pogba.
That’s according to well-respected Spanish source AS, who report that the Red Devils are in negotiations over a £97million deal for the Frenchman.
Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, has previously revealed talks with Real Madrid, but that is clearly far from a done deal if United have now begun their own bid to bring him to Old Trafford.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time the midfielder had worn a United jersey, as he featured for the club as a teenager before leaving after a falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson.
No-one could have predicted then the player he would become, and it must be particularly frustrating for United that they are now going to have to pay so much for him, having failed to insert a buy-back clause into his transfer all those years ago.
Nothing is likely to go ahead until after the Euros, where Pogba is representing hosts France, but United are right to start sounding out his agents before Real steal a march on them.
