West Ham make first move for Spurs target

West Ham could pip Tottenham to Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi after the east London outfit made a bid of €35million.

Sky Sports are reporting that the Belgian starlet, who is currently away at Euro 2016, could be on his way to the Olympic stadium – although confusion reigns over the move.

The fee West Ham were offering stood at around £28.25m in GBP, but according to the same source, that may now change as currency fluctuates following Britain’s decision to vote out of the European Union.

It’s unclear whether that will affect transfers, but West Ham and Spurs will both be keen to push for the move nonetheless.

Ironically, it is Tottenham who have been most interested in Batshuayi, but now it is West Ham who are making the first move.

Spurs need to ensure they aren’t left behind, as all their energy has been focused on finalising Victor Wanyama’s transfer from Southampton.

Batshuayi scored 24 goals in Ligue 1 last season – admittedly not the strongest league – but it’s clear why he’s in such demand.

If anything, Tottenham’s need up front is greater than West Ham’s, but they need to act quickly to make sure he doesn’t get away from them.
